How the Background Removal Actually Works
This tool doesn't run an AI model to find your background (that's what Remove Background and CV Photo do). Instead it uses a much lighter technique built for one specific case: a person standing in front of a plain wall.
Why plain backgrounds work and busy ones don't
The algorithm samples the color at your photo's four corners, averages them into a single reference color, then marks every pixel within a Euclidean RGB distance of 60 from that reference as background and makes it transparent — replaced with white afterward. This corner-sampling approach is fast and needs no model download, but it has no concept of "person" or edges: it's pure color distance.
That means a plain, evenly lit wall behind you gets removed cleanly. A textured wall, a background with shadows, or clothing that's a similar color to the wall will confuse the threshold — parts of your shoulder might vanish, or parts of the wall might stay. If your results look rough, the fix isn't a setting in this tool; it's retaking the photo against a flatter, more evenly lit background, or using the AI-based Remove Background tool instead.
One more honest limitation: the output is currently a fixed 600×600 square crop, not a per-country exact print size. The country dimension list below is reference information for what to check before submission — use a photo editor or print shop to crop to your country's exact millimeter spec if it isn't square.
