Why this is an image signature, not a cryptographic one
When you draw, upload, or type a signature, it's captured as a PNG and embedded onto the page with pdf-lib's drawImage() — the same way a stamp would be placed on paper. Each field's position is stored as a percentage of the page (x/y/width/height), so it stays correctly aligned at any zoom level; at export time those percentages are converted into PDF points, including a vertical flip since PDF coordinates start at the bottom-left of the page while screen coordinates start at the top-left.
That's different from a cryptographic digital signature (the kind defined in the PDF spec's/Sig dictionary), which binds a certificate to the document's exact byte contents and lets a viewer verify the signer's identity and detect any later tampering. This tool doesn't implement that — there's no certificate authority involved, so it's suited to everyday paperwork rather than documents that require signer-identity verification.
Saved signatures live in your browser's localStorage (up to 12), which is why they don't follow you to a different browser or device — nothing is synced to an account because there is no account.

Is an image-based signature legally valid?
In most jurisdictions, a drawn, typed, or uploaded signature image on a PDF is legally acceptable for everyday business documents (this is how e-signatures generally work under UETA/ESIGN in the US, for example). For high-security legal documents, a cryptographic digital signature with identity verification may be required instead — this tool doesn't provide that.
Why is this an image and not a 'real' digital signature?
A cryptographic digital signature binds a certificate to the document's exact bytes so a viewer can verify who signed it and detect tampering. That requires a certificate authority and PDF signature dictionary support this tool doesn't implement — it embeds a signature image instead, similar to stamping a printed page.
Will my signature be saved for next time?
Yes, in your browser's localStorage (up to 12 saved signatures). Because it's stored locally rather than in an account, it won't follow you to a different browser or device.
Does the final PDF show the editing boxes and handles?
No. The dashed borders and resize handles are only visible while editing. The downloaded PDF contains only the embedded signature images.
Can I add multiple signature fields to one document?
